TAKE A LOOK AT THESE AWESOME WEEKEND JAUNTS AND START PLANNING YOUR MLK WEEKEND GETAWAY!
I had a dream of traveling more this 2016 and what better timing than this upcoming long weekend! You officially have an excuse to get away! Whether it's a road trip, a short flight, or a hometown staycation, a couple of days away can make all the difference.
Plus, three of my favorite weekend jaunts are super easy to get to!
WILMINGTON, NORTH CAROLINA
This is by far one of the best spots on the east coast to spend a few days. Book your stay at one of the historic B&Bs in the picturesque downtown district and spend your days lazily strolling around the cobblestone streets, dining along the river while eating farm to table cuisine.
Not only does Wilmington off you shops, history and killer nightlife, but you also have two beaches to choose from. So if you rather be barefoot all weekend, choose from either Wrightsville Beach or Carolina Beach as your home base.
I highly recommend a visit to the NC Aquarium while you are there as it offers a unique hands on learning experience of the coastal environment that all ages enjoy.
Another must is taking a water taxi from Wrightsville Beach over to Masonboro Island for an afternoon exploration trip. If the weather is nice enough you may be able to kayak there...it is south eastern NC after all...the weather is always great!
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA
Ok, before you judge me I am fully aware that Vegas does not seem like it should be on my weekend jaunts list, but it has a rightful place here.
Did you know that Vegas is one of the cheapest places in the continental US to fly to? Also, United Military Travel has numerous inside connections to the Vegas world making weekend jaunts super realistic?
The way I would plan Vegas as a 3 day weekend getaway would be to take off work early on Friday and come back Monday afternoon. Easy peasy!
Weekends are a perfect time to go skiing in the winter because realistically no one wants to spend their entire year vacation in the cold. Skiing is meant for weekend jaunts for sure!
