Alys Beach, Florida

I love Florida in the winter!

Call me a snow bird if you want but why not escape to warm temperatures and palm trees when it is 20 degrees and snowing here.
Seems like no-brainer to me....

And affordable too - majority of the time East Coasters can drive.  Just hit I-95 then hop onto 30A and cruise the whole way down!  Driving also gives you the chance to stop in fun towns like Charleston, SC and Savannah, GA.

And I have talked about a couple Florida towns before but not yet Alys Beach.
Alys Beach

Alys Beach is located in South Walton on the panhandle of Florida's Gulf Coast and offers a casual culture that is simple yet luxurious.
If you are wanting dive bars and parties this is NOT the beach for you.
First, if you are not familiar with South Walton it is a gem.  The area consists of 26 miles of sugar-white beaches and 16 different beach communities along the turquoise warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico.  Sport fishing is world renowned there so be sure to book a trip.  And for the nature lovers explore rare coastal dune lakes, maritime forests and windswept sand dunes.

One would visit Alys to indulge themselves literally in luxury.
Your surroundings would consist of striking palm trees, lush green spaces, intimate walkways, a breathtaking swimming pool and two upscale restaurants.

When the town was built the designers focused on three things: walkability, sustainability, artistic detail.  What they created was a welcoming beach neighborhood known for beauty both naturally and architecturally.

Things To Do

Caliza Pool
Lounge and swim in this stunning 100 foot salt water ellipse pool that is surrounded by open air lounge cabanas.  Or hit the beach in style in one of these loungers.

Central Park
This immaculate lawn is something architects dream of as it is covered with families, dogs, and moviegoers on blankets.
Each Tuesday in the summer watch free films on the lawn!

Nature Trail
The northern portion of the Alys Beach is a 20 acre nature preserve that provides a 1800-foot-long trail that winds its way through the whole preserve.  Most of it is on an elevated wooden boardwalk that gives you a great view of the habitat below!

The Beach
Bask in the sun on the clean white sand beaches or swim, paddle board or any other active pursuit you want.

Where to eat
First the most social spot day and night is Fonville Press, they serve coffee and seasonal specials all while providing a spot for Scrabble.
Then head over to George's at Alys Beach for a coastal cuisine on the more casual side and try their famous pan-roasted Gulf grouper with hibiscus-tea syrup (yum!!!!!)  And when you want to get dressed up dine at the upscale Caliza Restaurant where they offer an international flair to classic seafood.  Oh and you cannot miss Charlie's Donut Truck!

Accommodations
There are no hotels in Alys so check out Vrbo to book your rental house.  Private courtyards are a stand-out feature in the homes and they dance from two to five bedrooms starting at $300/night.
