The last thing that comes to my mind when I think of Germany is anything tropical.
Honestly, just beer and snow come to mind.
I love, love, love being from North Carolina because it was always so easy to get to the mountains and also the coast. A perfect blend of climates.
But Germany, well the residents have to travel a long way to get any sand between their toes.
I guess that is why Tropical Islands was created.
The resort is located on a former Soviet military air base just 60 km south of Berlin in Krausnick inside a hanger that was built originally to house airships. The resort is 360 meters long, 210 meters wide and tall enough to house the Statue of Liberty.
German engineers turned this hanger into a tropical haven that is open all year 24 hours a day and offers swimming, lounging, rainforest hikes, a spa, dining, and accommodations.
During your holiday in Germany even if it is snowing out take a couple of days and head to Tropical Islands, it would be a nice change of scenery and a one of a kind experience. Not many people can say they hiked along the largest indoor rainforest!
The rainforest covers 10,000 square meters and houses over 600 different species of plants putting the number of plants there over 50,000. Pretty impressive for the middle of Germany! While walking the trail you will come across 12 different stopping points where you can learn about the different species of plants.
It is a great education experience for kids!
What impresses me the most is the tropical village that truly reflects the tropical, South Pacific culture. The village is where you will find the restaurants, cafes and entertainment all in different architecture styles from Boreno, Bali, Thailand. You would seriously never know it was snowing outside!
Want to go hot air ballooning inside the dome? No problem!!
Hop inside one of the free-floating balloons and float across the entire dome at a height of 22 meters.
That is enough to make me wanna go!
Ok so aside from balloon rides, sick architecture and an amazing indoor rainforest the dome has warm, tropical water with a beach! And lots of it - a tropical sea, a kid's pool, a lagoon, and water park!
The roof is made of transparent panels so even in the dead of winter you can get a killer tan :)
I would defiantly recommend staying a few nights here in either a apartment, home, standard to luxury room, your own private lodge, a rainforest tent, camp in a teepee, park your camper or pitch a tent.
I cannot believe all these options exist under one roof!
Well, the camper area is just outside of the hanger walls....
