Hate it or love it - Valentines Day is upon again...
If you are a shower me in candy and roses type gal or a always buy the perfect piece of jewelry type guy then ya'll probably love this holiday.
I literally have never....I mean never experienced a Vday like that. I rather travel....duh.
What better reason to take a mini stay-cation.
For those of you that are in the service many times there are fantastic getaways just a couple hours away from your base.
Or if you are stationed overseas and have a few days off why not fly home.
Once home lock the door, rent movies, cook delicious food and do not come out until its time to go back!
Another way to be with your loved ones is to fly them to see you and have your stay-cation in a nice hotel near your base.

If you are stationed domestically here are some fun ideas for Valentines Day!

California
If you are stationed in San Diego escape to an island located inside Mission Bay called Paradise Point.
This bungalow style resort is scattered across a 44-acre island yet is just minutes away from downtown San Diego. You can choose to stay on the island and relax among their tropical gardens, lagoons and beaches or swim in any of their five pools before cozying up at a beach bonfire.
If you want to explore the city head over to SeaWorld, Old Town, San Diego Zoo or Balboa Park all of which are located right outside the island.
But I have a feeling that once you get there their five different dining venues and award winning spa will keep you there!

Washington State
There are only two things that come to mind when I think about the state of Washington and those are Seattle and the San Juan Islands.
And sure, there are plenty of romantic hotels and spa you could choose to stay in for Valentines Day but if were me I would rent a house in the San Juan Islands.
I found this gem of a house on Homeway and it is reasonable starting at $179/night.
Check out the San Juan Islands Travel Guide for the ferry schedules!

Texas
This inn has been described as the creme de la creme of luxury farm retreats so what better way to celebrate Valentines Day this year if you are in the great state of Texas. Dos Brisas only has ten rooms so intimacy is the top priority there and if you want luxury for a weekend look no further. Each room has 1,200-thread count Egyptian cotton sheets on oversized plush beds and functional fireplaces.
If you do choose to leave your room indulge yourself at their Five-Star restaurant and in their world class wine list or take a dip in their infinity pool that overlooks horse pastures and world class Texas sunsets.

Keswick Hall
What a treat this plantation is! This 48 room mansion is located on 600 acres in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and is surrounded by wineries, breweries and cideries. I would recommend this place if you want to really experience the high cotton of the south.

No matter what you are looking for in a "perfect" Valentines Day just remember that it doesn't matter how much money is spent or how many gifts you get. It is all about that one hug or sweet kiss that reinforces the love you share with another.
Spend a little more time in bed before getting up that morning or send an extra sweet text - some of the best things in life are free.
Your partner may want to give you the world but can't so accept whatever they offer graciously :)
