A Journey through Frankfurt

WELCOME TO FRANKFURT,THE MOST INTERNATIONAL CITY IN GERMANY AND THE SMALLEST METROPOLIS IN THE WORLD.

Whether you are visiting Frankfurt on business, it is the largest financial center on the continent after all, or there for pleasure, you will find the city offers amazing guided tours, plenty of cultural enjoyment, a a variety of globally diverse restaurants, and one of a kind shopping opportunities!
Frankfurt reminds me of Vancouver in the sense that it is a melting pot of nationalities.  Almost one in three people living in Frankfurt do not hold a German passport.  That is why you will always find a restaurant that serves your favorite food: Chinese, Thai, French, American, Indian...you name it Frankfurt has got it.  So don't worry if you do not speak German, you are bound to find someone who speaks your native language!  The primary reason this bustling city has become so diverse is from its long history of being a trading center, people have been living here for centuries co-existing peacefully with other nationalities - how beautiful is that.  The rest of the world could really learn something from Frankfurt.

I AM NOT GOING TO FILL THIS POST WITH THE PLETHORA OF ACTIVITIES FRANKFURT OFERS, BUT RATHER SUGGEST TWO ACTIVITIES THAT HAVE TO BE ON YOUR ITINERARY.

FIRST, OLD SACHSENHAUSEN

Imagine old school Germany, narrow cobblestone lanes with small squares with fountains and frame houses.  That is what Old Sachsenhausen is all about.  In the large and small Rittergasse you will find picturesque pubs, restaurants, cheese shops, and boutiques

lined up with people sitting out front on wooden benches enjoying local apple wine.  Also, here you can find German specialties such as beef with green sauce, handmade pretzels and much more!  The locals here are friendly, festive, and welcoming to visitors.  During the summer you can find them in the street celebrating in their fountains, but if you don't want to get wet avoid these areas because they will drag you into the fun! Simply put, if you are looking to spend some time in original German pubs drinking local craft beers and eating authentic German food, add Old Sachsenhausen to your itinerary.

SECOND, BOAT TOURS ON THE MAIN AND RHINE RIVERS

Honestly, I suggest taking a boat tour in any city that offers them because they are so much fun and a fantastic way to tour the city!  What better way to beat the city heat in the summer time than getting out on the water for a couple of hours.  There are two rivers that cut through and around Frankfurt, the Main and Rhine Rivers.  There are various excursions for "little cruises and big tours" that include trips to Offenbach or the Grisheim locks.  On a day trip, the boat takes you up the Main to Seligenstadt and Aschaffenburg or takes you down the Main to its mouth and then on the Rhine to cities like Mainz, Eltville, and Rudesheim.  I suggest taking the down the river trip because it will take you to more places and you can say you cruised two different rivers in Germany!

SO NOW THAT YOU HAVE SIPPED HOMEMADE APPLE WINE, ATE HAND TWISTED PRETZELS, AND CRUISED UP AND DOWN FRANKFURT YOU SHOULD SPEND SOME TIME IMMERSING YOURSELF IN GERMAN CULTURE.

Head over to Museumsufer, where 11 well-known museums are lined up or take your pick from the 50 other museums and exhibition halls in the immediate area!
